Book Review: "Lean In" by Sheryl Sandberg

I realized these past few months I’ve only read books written by men (no offense, simply an observation), so this month I was inspired to read a book, “Lean In,” authored by Sheryl Sandberg, the COO of Facebook.

Sheryl talks about her challenges and victories as a woman during her college years and into her early professional careers. It’s fascinating to me that I can relate to the issues she talked about. It is evidenced in the book that as entrepreneurs we go through very similar challenges and she shares how she overcame hers. Reading a woman’s perspective was refreshing.

Ms. Sandberg talks about the new norm - life & business are together! She shares that new challenges need new solutions. This is especially important for female entrepreneurs who wear many hats, both in family life and business life. She talks about how she and her husband made practical and conscious efforts to make things work. It’s great to know that a career woman doesn’t have to choose family or career; we can have both!

Women in leadership roles are lacking. I am so thankful everyday to be surrounded by confident, courageous, and compassionate women. Their presence in my life has helped and is still helping me become a better version of myself.

Sheryl shared her passion for more women to accept the invitation that we naturally possess; leadership! Reading this book inspired me even more to “sit at the table,” take part and lead so that others like me can have the opportunity to grow and change lives one woman at a time!

If you are an entrepreneur and a family person, this is a great read to see from the outside how we can be successful in life and business. We deserve to be thriving in our life and business - we can have both!
