Featured Entrepreneur: Thomas Girard

Thomas Girard

Thomas is a real estate entrepreneur living right here in San Diego California. But this wasn’t always true, originally from Tucson Arizona, Thomas moves to California to escape the weather, traffic, and overall just enjoy his life. Thomas didn’t start out as an entrepreneur, in Arizona he was a military police officer, then he worked in civilian law enforcement. His original plan moving to California was to join a Federal Agency and continue his work as a civil servant. But he met a couple that owned they own real estate office. Thomas was helping this couple deliver furniture to veterans when something changed. Thomas asked himself do I want to stay involved in law enforcement and die either of a heart attack or on the job, or do I want to do something more. Thomas decided he wanted to start something where he can make more of an impact in the lives of his peers, and veterans, so he got his license and got a mentor.

Transitioning from the military to entrepreneurship can be a difficult task, Thomas moved from ten years in either military police or civilian police which both have highly regimented schedules, to entrepreneurship. Although most people have trouble finding the motivation and willpower to accomplish their goals. Thomas loves his new life as an entrepreneur. He mentions to us how he has the option to travel, without putting in a request, and has the freedom to accomplish his goals the way he wants to.

Marketing is a must in business, Thomas still in the works of getting the word out and letting people know what is different about his team. Being in real estate he sees so many other agents that don’t care as much about the process or their clients, but only collecting that paycheck! But coming from a military background, Thomas doesn’t share that view, instead, his goal is to make the client's process effortless. But Thomas doesn’t stop there he donates five hundred dollars of every commission to a veteran organization, whether it be one of the clients choosing or his own. Thomas decided to make that shift and really try to make a difference in the community by giving back. Not only does Thomas give back by donating money, wants to make an impact by speaking on stages to share his ideas and experiences.

If you are in the military or a veteran looking to transition into entrepreneurship Thomas’s best advice for you is, to get started as quickly as possible. But whatever happens don’t give up you have to embrace the suck, entrepreneurship isn’t easy but anything that is worth having is difficult to achieve. Thomas hopes to not only gain more speaking gigs, and continue his entrepreneurship journey but also aims to impact the youth and make a large impact in his community! One of Thomas’s long-term goals is to get twenty acres of land to build a bunch of tiny homes on, to give homeless veterans a new start.
