Freedom – Are you Free?
Freedom – Are you Free?
What does freedom mean to you? I would imagine that most people if they’re living in the United States, think about our flag or perhaps they’re thinking about our troops or the Fourth of July, America’s Independence Day. While I believe we do have the best nation on the planet, I consider it a blessing to wake up everyday knowing that I live in a country where I am free to pursue just about anything I want to.
What’s the saying? Life, liberty, and the pursuit of profits?
Oh, wait, I suppose you were expecting “Happiness?” Well, I am not sure about everyone else, but I believe that one of our freedoms living here in America is being able to pursue the mighty dollar. Now, I am not trying to say that money will bring you happiness, but it will buy you freedom.
Every day I wake up thinking about what I could do if I didn’t have to work. Like most people, I still have my day job. You know, that thing you do when you go to work and work for someone else for 40 hours a week. It’s not like I don’t want to work, but I just want to be able to bring my kids to school, then perhaps go to the gym, then come home and have breakfast with my wife. Maybe go with my wife to drop the kids off then go to a movie. Basically, I want to be able to do anything I want to do, anytime, anywhere and not have to worry about a job or the tasks I do for others that pay me to do these tasks.
If you could start your day doing anything you wanted to do, where would you begin?
If you don’t have a solid answer for this, I can tell you that for the past eight years, I have been working harder for myself than I do on my job. I don’t mean, and I am not saying that I work less hard at work, but when I am not at work, I am working harder on myself to get ahead. I am reading and learning or working my side businesses so someday in the future I will be able to go to work and say, it has been nice, but as of today I am no longer going to be working for you.
If they ask me what am I going to do next, I’ll simply tell them I’m going to continue to work harder on my own businesses and learn more about what I want to do next, because I am working on designing my life. This is what freedom means to me. Having a life that I’ve created to enjoy the things in life I’ve worked for.
If you have any questions about designing a life you want to live, please email me at email@example.com, and put freedom in the subject line.
