Have You Discovered True Freedom?

July 4th, Americans celebrate our independence. According to Wikipedia:

"Independence Day is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the Declaration of Independence of the United States on July 4th, 1776. The Continental Congress declared that the thirteen American colonies were no longer subject to the monarch of Britain and were united, free, and independent states."

We celebrate the act of becoming free, as a united nation. But what is freedom; what does it mean to you, and how does it apply to your life?

While freedom is a vast subject, I will discuss two main metrics of freedom, socioeconomic freedom, and personal freedom. To achieve these ends, Americans all have the right and ability to start a business and become their own boss.

I think this is taken for granted by many. Immigrants from areas where entrepreneurship is extremely difficult to impossible are often owners of your local establishments, as they understand the true potential of this freedom and act accordingly.

If you understand the difficulty, and even the utter inability to legally start your own business in some countries, it helps develop a deeper appreciation for our freedom to engage in entrepreneurship. In many parts of Europe, there is a labyrinthine bureaucratic obstacle course set up for those who attempt to embark on this endeavor, and in many parts of the globe, there's a philosophy that one cannot stray outside of the class or caste they were born into. In some cultures, there are severe social consequences if one dares stray from their established norms.

In contrast to those restrictions, here in the United States of America, we can incorporate with very few requirements. We have been granted this luxury by all of those who fought so diligently to ensure our inalienable right to "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness"  by every citizen of this country. I hope you use this gift wisely!

Another aspect of freedom is our own personal experiences. Do you have the FREEDOM in your life to do what you WANT to do? Do you have the time freedom to enjoy making memories with your family and loved ones? Do you have the financial freedom to take vacations, own your property, quit your job, and live your life on your own terms? This is true freedom! We have a unique, distinct opportunity that is not available to most of the world. Don't squander it. This is a time when we can truly become great!

Don't presume that you are confined to a certain job or class or any kind of restrictive environment - we all have the ability to become our own bosses. That does mean that we live with our failures as well as our successes, but if we learn from our failures, they're assets on our journey forward. Use those experiences to ensure success, or at least guide yourself forward with a much better idea of which paths lead to ruin, thereby bringing yourself to the path to success.
