Letter from Editors September

San Diego is such a beautiful place. We are one of the cities that are very entrepreneur driven. With Life by Design magazine being designed for entrepreneurs, it makes it a perfect hub for ongoing startups and/or companies that are scaling.

The theme of this month's edition is "startups,” which hits dear and near to my heart! I grew up in the Philippines, a third world country, where opportunities were presented often to the rich. My dad was an overseas contract worker, so we barely saw him because if you want to make more money, you find a job outside of the Philippines. Growing up, I saw my mom hustle; she's the one actually that introduced me to entrepreneurship, I remember seeing her sell Tupperware, and get lots of free stuff from the company. I subconsciously learned what this “entrepreneurship” thing was at a young age. Ever since then I knew that I would be a business owner, and I will be working for myself.

There is always the magic and excitement behind starting any business. For myself, and some entrepreneurs will agree with me that one of the best parts of the business is the beginning. It's like the honeymoon period. The process is similar to having a child; you conceive, give birth, and raise them. A parent would have this vision of what their child is going to look like. Of course, just like a baby, your business will go through the growing pains, and then hit adulthood, where the money comes in!

Here at Life By Design, we encourage anyone that has dreams to pursue it and use this accessible source of information and resources to hear from other entrepreneurs that have gone through the same path as you! With the articles in this edition, I hope you find answers or inspirations through their stories about how they started, how they maintained and how they grew.
