Most people, raise a family, earn a living, lie on a deathbed and whisper “I wish I would have..." to a grandchild, then they die. Kind of brutal? It is meant to be. I heard it from my Papa in his last days as I asked him what the most important thing in life is. His response was family, but he also wished he experienced more in life and was more in control of his life.
We all need coaches in our lives, people who tell us what we need to hear not what we want to hear. I never want to be that person lying on that bed and looking up knowing the end is near and think, "Man I wish I would have..." I never want that for you either.
Why does this happen? People stop growing, they stop working on themselves, they stop pushing themselves, and personal development has the lifespan of a gym membership.
You will doubt yourself. You will ask “Why God? Why is this happening to me? I am just trying to take care of my children and my spouse. I am doing everything that is expected of me. Why does is this keep happening to me?"
As you hear in conversations or as you scroll through your social media, a lot of people like to complain, but they don't want to do anything to fix their situation. The number one reason is FEAR. “What if things don't work out?” I can still hear my Bootcamp instructor from 18 years ago, screaming at us: “It’s all mindset and you have to understand fear is the crap you make up in the 6 inches between your ears.”
I never learned the benefits of owning a business or entrepreneurship in school. I just followed the “system.” I still believe in education, but I wish there were more life classes out there. I love serving my country, but I can hear my Papa’s whispering to me. Go for more.
I recommend you grab a side hustle or a passion project that can open many more opportunities for you and your family. Are you living the life you wanted, or are you working yourself to death, while the owners are off having a cocktail in Bora Bora? I wasn’t about to settle and go through the motions of paycheck to paycheck. I want to live a “never settle lifestyle!”
When you take that first step forward today, please understand that everybody won’t see it and won't believe it is possible. It’s so important that you remember that. It’s necessary that you align yourself with people and attract people who are hungry and have a huge reason why.
I needed something for my family, I needed that conversation with Papa, and he inspired me to take that first step. I had to take the fear out of my head, take control of my life and see myself as one of those people that are living their dreams. Papa, I hear you, It’s up to me. #neversettle
